i think 99jakes was one of my earliest introductions to hardcore techno, namely gabber. before that, i already knew of it but only listened to 1-2 artists. i always viewed the genre as something that was loud and exciting with no real emotional depth to it. but Junk Drawer Vol.1 proved me wrong. like, REALLY wrong. the emotion in my favorite track felt like such an unbelievable display of sadness and moving on i rarely hear in other music. and my god those stabs and kicks... <3

Really sad to hear Paris has passed on; with this absolute gem they had a historian's mastery of early 90's jungle but made it purely their own. More fun than a box full of kittens.
